Health and Safety documents and resources for migrant workers with ESOL needs
Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has produced a range of its leaflets in a variety of languages for use by those
with refugee and other migrant languages, which are available on its website. It has also produced a free teaching
resource, a DVD called: ‘It’s your right – health and safety guidance for migrant workers’, for use by ESOL
teachers working with migrant and refugee workers or work-seekers attending ESOL classes. The DVD uses
simple English to explain basic health and safety rights for all workers. It also explains how workers can contact
HSE anonymously if they have concerns about their workplace. They can do this in their own language if they
prefer – HSE provides access to phone interpreters in over a hundred languages.
 
In the East of England, the HSE has a multi-lingual Outreach worker to help to improve the understanding of safe
working practices by those employing people who have ESOL needs.

Several versions of the swine flu information leaflet are available for UK citizens and residents whose first language is not English. A spoken version is also available for people who have difficulty reading, and a Braille copy is available for the partially sighted.

Migrant Workers and New Arrivals Welcome Pack

This welcome pack has been created in response to the identified needs of the community. The pack focuses on giving basic information and signposting to further information to enable people to live, learn, work and play safely in Lincolnshire.

Initially the packs will be in English, Polish, Portuguese, Latvian and Lithuanian and are being made available in Libraries, receptions, schools and other public facing outlets.
